It will be designed as a university module, with pre-reading, further reading and seminar-style delivery.

Moreover, there will be an option to complete a 3,000-word essay on a topic within the curriculum, with the best submission receiving a full refund, and the top three being published on our Institute.

Curriculum:

Lesson 1: Epistemology and Etiquettes
โ

This seminar will discuss the nature of knowledge and its types.
-
Further, it will use an epistemological taxonomy to prove the existence of God.
-
Beyond this, it will prove the validity of Islam as a truth mechanism and a ‘way of life’.
Lesson 2: The Normative Tradition
โ

This class will cover the fundamental sciences which define the Islamic tradition.
-
The human has three universal faculties: the Faculty of Action, the Faculty of Belief and the Faculty of Emotion.
-
These correspond with three sciences of the Islamic tradition: Fiqh, Aqidah and Tasawuf, respectively.
Lesson 3: The Concept of Purification and Its Spiritual Ramifications

Tahara, or purification, has two types.
-
The first is External, which comprises of Ghusl (the major ritual ablution), Wudu (the minor ritual ablution) and Tayamum (the dry ablution).
-
The second is Internal, which is concerned with cleansing the Soul from infamies.
Lesson 5: Tackling Controversies

Postmodern, British society is tackled with controversies, disputes and debates, deriving from an ethos of ignorance.

This lesson will attempt to deal with common controversial topics and provide the blueprints to navigate around them according to the Normative Tradition.

Topics from both within the Muslim community and externally to it will be discussed, such as: Shirk (Polytheism), Bida (Innovations), Khuruj (political rebellion), and ‘Islamic secularism’.
Lesson 4: The Concept of Prayer and Its Spiritual Ramifications

Salah, or prayer, is an obligation upon every capable Muslim, 5 times per day.
-
This session will cover all elements of prayer, the Arabic passages and their meanings, the actions and their translations to the realm of spiritual discourse, and the legal rulings pertaining to prayer.
Lesson 6: Aqidah Tahawiya

This lesson will cover a classic and widely accepted text in Islamic creed.

This will provide the foundations for the science of Ilm Ul Kalam and the hermeneutic principles from which it derives.
Lesson 7: The Science of Hadith

This seminar will cover the science of Hadith, its history, foundation, types, and application within the microcosm and the macrocosm.

This will be contrasted with the Scientific Historical Theory and will explicate the tools of objectivity and critical analysis as pertinent to Ulum Ul Hadith.
Lesson 8: Living with the Quran

This final seminar will provide the student with the fundamentals of living with the Quran.

It will advise the student on a portion of the Quran to recite daily. Furthermore, it will cover key verses that are considered controversial and provide classical and contextual responses.

Additionally, it will demonstrate the keys to becoming the ‘Sahibul Quran / A Companion of the Book’.
Assignments:

โThere are two assignments available to successfully complete the Path To Knowing Curriculum.
The first is obligatory (group presentations) and the second is optional (an academic essay). More details have been attached below.

Group Presentation:
You will be allocated a partner for this task, with whom you will make a PowerPoint presentation to share with the class. Every student must speak for 5 minutes. Below are some indicative options (though, if you agree upon an alternative topic, please let me know before beginning the research).

3000 Word Essay:

The second assignment is optional. It includes completing a 3000-word
academic essay, with professional referencing (footnotes and bibliography). A marking criteria will also be published, elucidating further guidance.

Below are some indicative essay questions, though the student has the discretion to choose their own question, with prior consultation. Each student will get the opportunity to book a private meeting to discuss their essay plans and gain guidance on how to craft the essay.
